How to start an online store in Kuwait
You can open an online store in Kuwait in a few days if you get four things ready first: a commercial license, a payment gateway account, a delivery plan, and good product photos with clear prices. This guide takes you through each step in order, and ends with the checks to run before your first real customer arrives.

What you need before you open an online store in Kuwait
Start with the paperwork, because everything else waits for it. Kuwait's Ministry of Commerce and Industry (MOCI) issues commercial licenses. Its online portal, Kuwait Business Center, lets you set up a company and apply for a license without visiting an office. Some activities can also be licensed as a home business, with their own eligibility rules. Check which license fits your activity on the MOCI site before you pay for anything.
The license matters for payments too. Payment gateways in Kuwait verify your business before they let you take KNET or card payments. UPayments, for example, says you need a Kuwaiti company license and a company bank account to open an account. Its verification also asks for the civil ID of the authorized person, a recent commercial registry extract, and your IBAN. Other gateways ask for similar documents, so keep digital copies in one folder.
- Confirm the right commercial license for what you sell on the MOCI website.
- Open a business bank account in the name on your license.
- Scan your civil ID, license, registry extract and signatory certificate.
- Write down your business name in Arabic and English, exactly as it appears on the license.
Decide what to sell first
You don't need your full range on day one. A small, tidy catalog sells better than a big, messy one. Pick the products you already know sell well, or the ones you can photograph and ship easily.
Price in Kuwaiti dinar. The dinar has three decimal places (1 KWD is 1,000 fils), so a price like 4.750 KWD is normal and customers expect it. Decide early whether delivery is included in the price or charged at checkout. Customers in Kuwait are used to seeing a delivery fee, but a free delivery threshold can lift the size of each order.
Take photos in daylight on a plain background, and shoot every color or size you plan to list. Write short descriptions that answer the questions people ask you on WhatsApp: size, material, what is in the box, and how long delivery takes.
Build your store
With Mawg3 you can start for free. Pick a template, add your logo and colors, and your store gets a mawg3.com address right away. Your store can run in Arabic, English or both, which matters in Kuwait where many shoppers switch between the two.
Add your products with photos, prices, stock counts and variants such as size and color. If you prefer to type a request, Barq AI, the assistant inside your dashboard, can add products and create discounts for you in Arabic or English.
- Create your website and choose a template that suits your products.
- Add your logo, brand colors and contact details.
- Add products with clear photos, prices in KWD and stock counts.
- Group products into categories so shoppers can browse.
- Write your Arabic and English text, or add translations for the language you didn't write in.
Set up payments
Cash on delivery is on by default in every Mawg3 store, so you can take orders from the first day. Most shoppers in Kuwait also want to pay online with KNET or a card, and that needs a payment gateway.
On Mawg3 you connect your own gateway account. You can choose Tap, MyFatoorah, UPayments, Hesabe, Payzah or Bede for KNET and Visa or Mastercard, and Tabby if you want to offer buy now, pay later. Install the gateway from the Addons page and enter the API key it gives you. Then open Settings, then Payment Gateway, to see it marked as connected. The money goes from the gateway to your own bank account.
Plan delivery
Delivery is where many new stores lose money. Price it on purpose. In Kuwait, a common approach is a fee per governorate or area, with free delivery above a set order total.
On the Delivery page you build shipping zones. For Kuwait, a Local delivery by area rate lets you set a fee for each governorate or area. You can add a Free over amount, a minimum order, and delivery time slots that customers pick at checkout. If you also have a shop, pickup locations let customers collect their order.
You can deliver with your own driver or connect a delivery partner. Armada, Jaak and DoDelivery connect to Mawg3, so you can send a delivery request from the order instead of copying the address by hand.
Add your policies and contact details
Shoppers check two things before they pay a new store: how to reach you, and what happens if something goes wrong. Add a clear returns and refund policy, terms of service and a privacy policy. Put your phone number or WhatsApp in the footer. Check MOCI's website for the consumer rules that apply to your activity, and write your policy to match them.
Launch checklist
Run through this list before you share your link on Instagram or WhatsApp. It takes about an hour and saves you awkward messages from customers.
- Turn on the Test Gateway (Sandbox) in Settings, then Payment Gateway, and place a test order.
- Place one real KNET order for a small amount, then refund it to see how refunds work.
- Open your store on your phone and check every page in Arabic and English.
- Check the delivery fee for a few different areas at checkout.
- Read the order email your customer receives.
- Connect your own domain if you have one. A .com.kw name has extra rules set by CITRA, Kuwait's regulator for .kw domains, so a .com is often quicker to start with.
- Publish your store and share the link.
Common mistakes to avoid
Launching with only cash on delivery for too long. It works at the start, but cash orders get refused at the door more often, and you carry the delivery cost. Apply to a gateway early, since approval can take a while.
Forgetting stock counts. If you sell the same items in a shop, keep one stock count for both, or you will sell things you no longer have.
Writing everything in one language. Many shoppers in Kuwait search in Arabic even when they read English. Give your product names and descriptions in both.
Questions people ask
Do I need a license to sell online in Kuwait?
Check with the Ministry of Commerce and Industry for your activity. In practice, payment gateways ask for a valid commercial license before they let you accept KNET or cards.
Can I start with cash on delivery only?
Yes. Cash on delivery is on by default in Mawg3, so you can take orders while your gateway application is reviewed. Add online payments as soon as you are approved.
How long does gateway approval take?
It depends on the gateway and on how complete your documents are. Ask the gateway for its current timeline, and send every document in the first application.
Can my store be in Arabic and English?
Yes. A Mawg3 store can run in Arabic, English or both, and shoppers can switch language on the site.
